Landscape Studies reflects the huge influence of location on my practice: not just the countryside or city around me, but places that I have visited and even those in distant memories. The series focuses on what I draw from the environment around me, and allows me to explore a number of themes dear to me, including the way mankind has imposed on, and shaped, the landscape in which we find ourselves.
Landscape Studies No.2 conveys a darker, more sombre feel as it reflects a more urban and cityscape environment, with the obvious lessening of nature’s importance and an increasing dominance of mechanical sounds.
The release opens and closes with field recordings: I have amassed a huge library over the years of sounds taken all over the world that are used in my music and soundscapes. Here they are presented in a raw and untreated form, and help to concentrate the listener’s mind on what these releases represent.
