Following a run of double album releases between July 2020 and February 2021, RTR returns to releasing a new album every month with Oleksandr Demianenko’s ‘Indian memories and captured radio waves’ (RTR039). Oleksandr is a musician, field recordist, analogue photographer, and found of the Giraffe Tapes cassette label. Originally from Ukraine and now currently residing in Georgia, Oleksandr combines ambient and drone music with a sense of time and place through the use of field recording and photography.
‘Indian memories and captured radio waves’ chronicles Oleksandr’s travels in India, building warm and textured ambient progressions, processed loops and recorded amateur radio.
“This album is the result of my memories and reflections.
I used field recordings from my travels in the regions of India,
fragments of records my improvisation on detuned grand piano,
and tape loops with amateur radio recordings at 20-40 meters.
The photos were taken on very expired film during the same trip”
