Distant Fields is an online collaborative record by two musicians who’ve never met in person. Pianist Julia Gjertsen (Oslo, Norway) and electronic musician & visual artist Nico Rosenberg (Santiago, Chile) discovered each other’s music on James Heather’s show Moving Sounds and began exchanging ambient sketches and piano layers shortly thereafter. Together they’ve created a ‘slowed down sonic universe’ with the aim of finding peace in a distant world. “You don’t have to know each other, or physically be at the same place in order to connect musically” says Gjertsen.
Julia Gjertsen is a musician/pianist/producer based in Oslo. Her music is centered around piano layers evolving into ambient soundscapes. After her first EP ‘Slow Motion Stories’ (2012), she has released several singles, remixes and a full length album ‘Fragile’ (2019) . “Combining and organising piano parts with other textural elements in a minimalist way” is how she describes her composing process.
Nico Rosenberg is an electronic music composer, visual creator and psychologist from Santiago, Chile. He first came to prominence as a member of the local band BORAJ before establishing himself as a solo artist. His sound is distinguished by the use of textures, string quartets and probabilistic algorithms.
